HEY new (YOUTH) PARENT!

So much changes as your kid moves from elementary school to middle school (and not just the need for deodorant).  Middle school has more freedom, more responsibility, and a new place at church. After kids graduate 6th grade,  they are officially too old for Kids Church and move onto New City Youth.  Starting something new can be intimidating for you and your kids. We put together a list of questions to help ease the transition.  We LOVE your kids and want them to stay connected at New City.  So if you or your kid has questions or concerns, let us know! Email kevin@newcity.church  to get in touch with our Youth Director.
When and where is Youth?
Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30ish PM at New City Church but on June 10 we'll meet at Elks Riverside Park
What do you do each week?
Each night looks a bit different but in general, we hangout, worship, hear a message from the Bible, and hangout some more.
What should my student bring to Youth?
A paper Bible, a journal, and their friends!
Who are the Youth Leaders?
Our Youth Directors, Kevin & Mikayla Bell, lead a team of adults who are trusted and have completed the background check process. These are fun, cool, Jesus-loving people that your kids will want to spend time with.

Contact kevin@newcity.church for more info.
What topics do you talk about?
We talk about the Bible. If the Bible addresses something, it's free game to us. We are mindful of age groups in our discussions.
How do you handle (fill in the blank)?
It’s important for you to remember that you, as parents, set the standards for your children. One of our main goals is to partner with and support you in the discipleship of your students.
What about Summer Camp, Vision, and Basecamp?
Every summer our team puts on Summer Camp at Beartooth Christian Camp. This camp is for our students and students from other churches around the state. Summer Camp is June 22-26. Register here.

Vision Conference is a youth conference that we host every fall and hold at New City. We invite youth from across our church network and typically bring in a few guest speakers. Vision Conference is October 29-231

Basecamp is a youth retreat held in February at Camp Upmost for just New City Youth students. Basecamp is February 18-20, 2027.

We strongly encourage students to pay some or all of their event registration. Matthew 6:21 tells us that where our hearts will be where we put our treasure. When students use their own money to attend these events, they engage differently in what is happening. They take it more seriously and have more fun. Encourage your kids to work and save for these events.

Every spring we sell New City Youth discount cards to help students raise funds for Summer Camp. Cards are available starting May 6 on Wednesday night at Youth. 6th grade students can checkout cards from Kevin Bell on Sunday mornings until they enter Youth in June.

When can my kid start attending Youth?
Kids entering 7th grade in the fall of 2026 can attend Youth starting on June 10. We'll meet at Elks Riverside Park from 6:30-8:30ish PM.
Any tips for a new (youth) parent?
  • Expect their social lives to shift a bit and involve you less (except for rides and food).
  • Talk to your kids about sex, pornography, drugs and alcohol before they start attending Youth.
  • Encourage your kids to get to the youth leaders and help them find mentors.
  • Sometimes it can take a bit to find their place and it can seem intimidating. That gets better with time.
  • Follow up with questions when they get home about what was preached and if they had any good conversations.
