WHY KOSOVo?
Kosovo is a small, landlocked country in the heart of the Balkans. Once part of Yugoslavia, it declared independence in 2008, making it Europe’s newest nation. It shares borders with Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Albania. The majority of the population is Albanian, alongside smaller communities of Turks, Bosnians, and Serbs.
Kosovo’s history is rich, complex, and often marked by struggle. For centuries it was ruled by the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires before becoming part of Yugoslavia in the 20th century. In the 1990s, tensions rose as the majority-Albanian population sought greater freedom. The conflict escalated in 1998–1999 until international intervention led to the path toward independence.
Today, Kosovo is a young nation still finding its footing. Many people are rebuilding their lives and looking for hope, healing, and community. With a majority Muslim population and a vibrant generation of young people, it is a place where the love of Jesus can shine brightly.

OUR FOCUS IN KOSOVO
For nearly twenty years, our work in Kosovo focused on supporting Humedica—a German aid organization—in running a small daycare in the village of Krushë e Vogël, just outside the city of Prizren. Prizren, located in southern Kosovo, is home to about 150,000 people, while Krushë e Vogël is a village of roughly 900.
This village endured deep tragedy and loss during the war, and the daycare became a place of healing and hope for local children. Today, it continues to thrive under the leadership of Alban and Jehona Bytyqi with the support of New City.
In 2022, we launched a church campus in Krushë e Vogël and have since expanded ministry into Prizren, reaching young adults and families with the hope of the gospel and building meaningful relationships in both communities. While Islam is the official religion of Kosovo, only a small percentage actively practice their faith—leaving many open and searching for something more.

KOSOVO'S HISTORY
JOIN A MISSIONS TRIP
Every summer and winter, we send teams from New City to Kosovo. Each trip looks a little different, but you can count on one thing: it's about people. One mission might mean throwing a party in Prizen to reach young adults. Another might be hosting a marriage conference for local churches or leading a summer camp where we share the gospel with the next generation.
These trips aren't about having the perfect skills-they're about showing up with a willing heart. You don't have to be a pro. If you're ready to serve, connect, and be part of what God is doing globally, there might just be a place for you on a team!

HOW TO PREPARE
TO JOIN A TRIP
Every short-term trip that we promote has an application process. Once the dates and emphasis of the trip are announced, the application is available for anyone to apply. Before you apply, confirm that the dates work for you and the prerequisites for the trip have been met. In the meantime...
Here are some practical next steps:
PRAY
Start praying for the leadership and team in Kosovo. Pray for people’s hearts to be softened and the love of Jesus to prevail. Spiritual investment is the first step in preparing for a missions trip. ”For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21
COMPLETE DISCOVER TRACK
If you’ve already completed Discover Track, great! This one of the prerequisites for the application process. Discover Track is the on-ramp to life at New City. It’s essential for every team member to grasp the vision, heart and culture of New City. We want every short-term trip to be an extension of our New City family in Great Falls, so it’s important we are all on the same page. And Discover Track is the best way to start that!
SAVE
Every missions trip costs around $2,400-3,200 depending on the time of year. There will definitely be fundraising opportunities so don’t let this number deter you from applying—we have found that God has provided miraculously for many. However, we believe that stewardship and saving is an important part preparing for a missions trip.
